Girša Etkins collection of Latvian Jewish folklore holds 515 units. Materials (in two kinds of Yiddish ortography and translated into Latvian and Russian) includes proverbs, sayings, beliefs, anecdotes, imprecations, curse words, explaining yiddish words in Latvian, and a description of Latvian and Jewish relations in Rēzekne.
The folklore collector Girša Etkins was born in Rēzekne in 1895. He was a teacher and translator, since 1926 he started to collect Jewish folklore. His first Jewish folklore collection was destroyed during the German occupation, but the second Etkins sent to Latvian Folklore Archives at the end of 1946.
