The folklore collection of Jaunroze parish teacher Dāvis Ozoliņš consists mostly of folklore material collected in Jaunroze, Ape, Jaunlaicene, and other parishes in northern Latvia by Ozoliņš himself and by his correspondents. A small portion of the collection is made up of information sent from other places in Latvia. Only about a fifth of Ozoliņš folklore collection “Memories of the Past” has survived—around 70 000 folklore items were collected in 35 handwritten volumes. Most of this collection was lost in the World War I. The surviving 13 317 items were given to the Archives of Latvian Folklore in 1929, donated by Dāvis Ozoliņš’ son, Kārlis Ozoliņš.

Although incomplete, this manuscript [LFK 910], predominantly recorded in 1880s and 1890s, is one of the oldest and most extensive 19^th century folklore collections in the Archives of Latvian Folklore. In addition to folklore texts, there are also letters addressed to Ozoliņš and drafts of letters he sent, transcriptions of scientific literature, synopses, and other types of notes, drafts of publications, or fragments thereof.
